New Book of the Month : 100 Hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains

by JP on Mar.17, 2009, under Gear Review

Before I begin the review of the book, I need to thank a friend of mine for giving it to me over Christmas. It came in very handy on my last trip to the Smoky Mountains, and I will have it with me on my future trips to the area as well.

The 100 Hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains provides exactly what the title implies. This books provides what I believe to be the best 100 hikes of the Smokies.

Unlike other hiking books, however, that only provide a brief overview of the trails with little detail, this book gives a great description of the trails, great directions, as well as a very sound history of the area where the hikes are located. It also does an excellent job of providing good maps of the trails.

If you visit the Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, or Pigeon Forge, I highly recommend you get out of the towns’ shopping, miniature golf, and great restaurants.

All of those things are great, but the reason to vacation in the Mountains is TO BE IN THE MOUNTAINS.

Many of the trails in this book, will really put you back in touch with the Mountains, and all of the beauty of the Smoky Mountain National Parks.

I will be writing about some of these trails within the next week. Until then, check out this book.
